Battery Condition Test introduces OEM battery tester for Pedelecs

E-bike (system) manufacturers now have the option to offer their dealers an economical (volume pricing as low as € 195) battery tester with specifications, exactly fitting the requirements and with optional BMS interfacing, fine-tuned to your requirements. Custom cables and OEM branding will be available. Future upgrade to standard models is possible!

Pedelec model BA450/OEM

This is exactly what is needed to test Pedelec’s. The continuous discharge current is 250W (equal to the nominal motor power), while the 450W peak power matches the 400-450W that a 250W motor temporarily draws from the battery when the e-bike drives off.

Motors that are electronically limited to nominal 250W (“250W”) but are actually 350W (such as Bosch) usually draw a peak power of up to 550W. Dealers want to test whether the battery is fit for street use so they can judge trade-ins and give well founded replacement recommendations. So this battery must be tested with the peak power equal to this 350W motor. Battery Condition Test accommodates this with the BA550/OEM.

Single or dual channel

While 2 channels is more expensive than one, all dealers who purchased our battery analyzers (when we still offered the choice of 1 or 2 channels) opted for dual channel. The reason is that a battery test may take the whole day when the battery comes in half empty and will be returned to the customer full. Peak testing capacity is required in the beginning of the season. While our standard testers are all dual, we do offer the option to OEM’s.

Remote warranty

The rationale to (let Battery Condition Test) create a BMS interface is that (well designed) BMS’s can provide data that influence warranty, such as deep discharging, (combined with) late charging, but also cycle count and serial number (dealers cannot change this when read in the BMS). Being able to recognize all factors that determine warranty eligibility enables manufacturers to actively involve dealers in warranty fulfillment. This potentially yields significant savings in logistic costs and testing at service centers, while drastically improving the service and speed to consumers. Dealers would certainly welcome to cooperate hereto.

When participating in the “joint order” program, the QTY 1000 price will apply at 100+ units for all positions except the “BMS interface”, “Support by BCT” and “OEM brand”, for which the QTY 250 prices will apply. For joint order 250+ quantities all 1000+ prices will apply.

Isn’t it cheaper to only test with constant current?

Yes, this is cheaper and it could even be enough to test your batteries for warranty (as this is almost always constant current). But your dealers would not be able to test their customer’s batteries under street conditions. And this is what they need to judge the value of e-bike (batteries) offered for trade-in and to provide well founded replacement recommendations.

Should we give or sell battery analyzers to our dealers?

Few consider giving battery analyzers free to implement 100% dealer warranty handling. We believe that selling at or around cost is the best strategy and makes you look good: to the dealer it looks as subsidizing. You -at least- benefit from less warranty applications.
